When a small business is in its infancy, the knowledge that your accounts are being taken care of by a professional team can be invaluable.

Owen Morris Partnership engaged the services of local accountants Fish Partnership in 2006, when their business was just beginning to develop. Currently operated from home, Owen Morris Partnership is looking to expand their client base and occupy office space in the near future. They provide marketing services and support to small businesses.

Their main client is an accountancy firm, but the partners decided that it would create a conflict of interests to employ a client. Instead they spent time researching a number of different accountants.

Partner Anthony Morris explains, “Although one of the other accountants we looked at offered us a lower price, Fish Partnership offered the best advice, and were so friendly and helpful that we decided to go with them. The other accountants that Owen Morris encountered had offered them conflicting advice with regard to whether they should operate as a partnership or a limited company. One accountancy firm fiercely advocated a partnership, while another was equally adamant that forming a limited company would suit them best. Fish Partnership’s Martin Sheehy explained the pros and cons of both courses of action, and helped the partners reach a decision.

Fish Partnership prepares the firm’s annual accounts, and also offers advice over the telephone without presenting a huge bill at the end of the call. “They are truly a professional outfit,” says Anthony. “They are very friendly and offer the right advice. My partner takes a long time to make a decision, wanting to know the ins and outs of everything first. Fish Partnership doesn’t rush us or put pressure on. We know accountancy firms that charge by the minute, even when they call you.

“Most start-up businesses would opt for the cheapest option but with us it’s vital to know that there won’t be a major problem, and if any problem did arise, our accountants could deal with it. It’s not about cost; it’s about peace of mind and knowing you have experts in your corner.”
