Accountant Does A Runner For Charity
A trainee accountant at High Wycombe-based accountancy firm Fish Partnership LLP has raised hundreds of pounds for life-saving research into cancer by taking part in the Great North Run.
Chris Nisbet was one of around 50,000 runners taking part in the run in Newcastle on 30 September, completing the 13.1 miles in a very respectable one hour and 50 minutes, and beating England football team head coach Steve McClaren by 20 minutes. Chris says: “It’s not a bad time for a first attempt”.
His friend Patrick Harman, who challenged him to take part after claiming he would be unable to complete the run, beat Chris by just three minutes. Both were running for Yorkshire Cancer Research and once Chris has collected all his sponsor money, he expects to be just over his £400 fund-raising target.
Chris put in six months of training for the run, for which he was preparing at the same time as professional stage exams for his Associate Chartered Accountant qualification in early September. He heard that he had passed the exams in mid-October and is now halfway towards achieving the qualification, with his next exam likely to be in June 2008.
Chris said: “I was glad to do the run for such a good cause and am very grateful to everyone who supported me.
“Although before I did the run I thought it was likely to be a one off, I would now like to go back and do it again next year, although probably for a different charity, depending on which ones offer places.”
